about
In case you're slow on the uptake, this is the title track. The one that sums it all up – like "Purple Rain." A smarmy narrator details the party's colorful guests – their looks, their criminal pasts, and their salacious proclivities. Clinking glasses, laughter and inappropriate remarks abound. You really should have been there.
lyrics
I think it was about midnight, yeah
That’s when the party got hotter
Women’s voices grew shriller
And the men’s faces got redder
The room was hung with streamers of smoke
That billowed and curled, making everyone choke
Eyes flashed
Sparkled and glistened
Everyone talked
No one listened
Oh look, there’s Jackie
Perfectly formed of face
Slim, full of grace
Men and women were both his thing
Whichever was closer would feel his sting
He had two cars
He’d been behind bars
For theft and attempted escape
Oh then there was that other time
The time he got busted for rape
It was a wild party
Oh yeah
A wild, wild party
We outta ice?
Don't worry about it
Over there, that’s Dolores
Sad-eyed, tall
Wrapped in some kind of Mexican shawl
She's pretty, with a body built to please
And a hotbed of venereal disease
To the bathroom she made frequent trips
Coke fell from her nose in expensive drips
She was always between apartments, didn’t have a phone
And never left a party alone
Behold the twin brothers
Oscar and Phil
They sang, played piano
Together with skill
They were powdered, rouged
With slicked-back hair
And always wore matching underwear
And while they both sure loved to cruise
A man they never chose to choose
They preferred each other, and couldn’t bear
To not make love a family affair
Yeah, it was a wild party
I mean seriously
Wild, wild party
Need a drinK? I do, too
Kate made the scene with her Hamptons tan
And left Black’s side to take Queenie’s man
Queenie saw her go, and stopped the Vic
To put on a record, so blue it was sick
She moved forward swiftly, stood before Black
“Hey, dance with me
'Til Kate comes back?”
And ever so shyly she smiled
He nodded, completely beguiled
The rest were simply repetitions
Of the more notorious – slim editions
Less practiced, less hardened
Less vicious, less strong
Just a bunch of strangers
Trying to get along
I mean, this was seriously a wild party
Oh yeah
A wild, wild party
Sunday's the new Friday
Oh my God I just walked in–
You'll never believe who I walked in on!
Yeah! Pants around his ankles!
He just smiled at me!
I think he wanted me to watch!
